Old Deuteronomy is a principal character. He is a very wise old cat and the leader of the Jellicles. He is shown as being very kind, showing sympathy towards Grizabella and conducting a plan to help her be accepted by the Jellicles. In turn, he is respected highly by the tribe. He is later kidnapped by Macavity which causes the ball to descend into turmoil, but Mr. Mistoffelees brings him back unharmed.
His three words are: “Wise, Commanding, Spiritual” or “Wise, Loving, Commanding”
