Demeter is a principal character. She has a history with Macavity, strongly implied to be a past abusive relationship. Because of this, she is very paranoid that Macavity may be near at any time. She is the only one to realize that Macavity has disguised himself as Old Deuteronomy when he comes back a second time.
Demeter is a very kind cat, treating those who are close to her with affection. She is sympathetic towards Grizabella from the beginning, but is hesitant to reach out to her because of the attitude of the other Jellicles. She is shown as being very close with Bombalurina and Munkustrap and finds comfort in them when her past comes back to haunt her.
Her three words are: “ Skittish, Cautious, Paranoid” or “Nervous, Sensual, Secretive”
